Introducing the Abalone Siren's Sconce, the fifth release from the Tennant NY's Fall 2023 Venus Collection, a whimsical new family of handmade fixtures inspired by the Surrealists and the natural forms of the sea. Employing the latest advances in cool-to-the-touch LED technology, the collection features table lamps and wall sconces made with hand-selected vintage specimen seashells in place of traditional shades, putting the organic source material behind so much 20^th century modernism front and center.

Equal parts natural history and functional wall art, Model No. 022 showcases the mother-of-pearl interior of the ear-shaped abalone shell in all its iridescent glory. It consists of a terra cotta-tinted, cast-concrete base that has been permanently fused to an upcycled vintage specimen seashell, sourced from a California collector. Half-round brass fittings secure the base to wall-mounting hardware, which is included.

From Town & Country December 2023: "The writer and artist Chris Tennant is best known for upcycled floor lamps and taxidermied dioramas, which were the subject not so long ago of an exhibit at the Vanderbilt Museum, surely one of the more curious destinations in all of Long Island. For his Fall 2023 'Venus' collection, Tennant is working on a smaller scale, fashioning surreal light fixtures out of seashells that would make Salvador Dali twirl his mustache with appreciation. The man who gave us the famed Lobster Telephone named his 1939 New York World's Fair pavilion, which featured nude models covered with strategically placed crustaceans, 'The Dream of Venus.'
