The Leather | The Canoe is crafted from full top grain English Bridle leather, tanned by the legendary Wickett & Craig in Pennsylvania. Traditionally used in equestrian tack, this leather is drum-dyed, hot-stuffed with waxes, and built to last generations. We’ve chosen a special grade of leather that bears the natural hallmarks of the animal—light scarring, range marks, insect bites, and tonal variation. These are not flaws. They are signatures of the natural quality and life history of the cattle it comes from. No two pieces are exactly the same. The bag will develop a rich patina, deepening in color and gaining a softness and luster that only honest, well-traveled leather can achieve.

The Canoe Bag is expertly handmade by the wonderful Tufts & Batson. Beautiful, thick bridle leather wraps around in an oval shape and is hand-sewn together with a big, visible stitch. “When designing the bag, we were inspired by OTZI’s wonderful log baskets. It’s such a cool design,” says Forsyth co-founder Annie Genovese. The large tote carries a ton. Maggie Kidd, Forsyth co-founder and Annie’s sister, uses the large Canoe as her daily work tote. “It’s such a great bag. Because of the structure of the leather, I can see and get to everything inside fast and easily. It fits comfortably under my arm, and it fits a laptop.” says Maggie.
