Sergio Rodrigues

Sergio Rodrigues (1927-2014) was the father of Brazilian furniture design. He started his career in the 1950s as an architect. Rodrigues was known for designs that made use of distinctive woods indigenous to Brazil, including jacaranda, peroba and imbuia, and were said to reflect the sociable, witty nature of the Brazilian national character. His most famous work is the Sheriff's Chair, designed in 1957. “The piece of furniture is not just the shape, not just the material which is made but also something inside it. It's the piece's spirit. It's the Brazilian spirit. It's the Brazilian furniture," ~ Sergio Rodrigues. Photo Source
