From the Art We Felt series |  Art We Felt is an ongoing series of exhibition posters meticulously recreated in needle-felted wool and embroidery. The wool is sourced from Australia and hand dyed, then felted in collaboration with two incredible embroidery artists based in Mumbai. Each piece takes about 150 hours of work. The color, the texture, the subject matter, and the craftsmanship all play together to create the kind of art we absolutely love.

This special commission recreates the famous vintage labels of Château Mouton Rothschild. The example shows the label created by artist Niki de Saint Phalle. We can recreate any of the labels. Browse the collection here.

The history of the labels | Château Mouton Rothschild, one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates, has long distinguished itself through an extraordinary relationship between wine and art. Under Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who took charge of the estate in 1922, Mouton was transformed into a symbol of innovation, culture, and exceptional winemaking.

In 1924, Baron Philippe commissioned poster artist Jean Carlu to create an original label for the vintage, but it was in 1945 that the tradition truly began. To celebrate the Allied victory at the end of World War II, he asked artist Philippe Jullian to design a label featuring a bold “V” for Victory. Its success inspired a remarkable tradition: nearly every vintage since has featured an original work of art commissioned especially for Mouton Rothschild.

Over the decades, the labels have become a remarkable collection of modern and contemporary art, featuring works by Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Francis Bacon, Keith Haring, Jeff Koons, David Hockney, Gerhard Richter, and Peter Doig, among many others. Artists are given creative freedom, often drawing inspiration from wine, the vine, or the ram—the historic emblem of Mouton Rothschild.

Together, the labels have transformed each vintage into something beyond a bottle of wine: a small, collectible work of art and a record of nearly eight decades of artistic history.
