c. 1780 Dutch Revival Figured Walnut Jan Hoogeland Longcase Clock

Netherlands, late 18th century. Bonnet top with scrolling cornice centering a finely carved acanthus leaf surmounted by a gilt wood figure of Atlas. The hood with fretwork frieze above the glazed arched door flanked by ionic corner columns with gilt bronze capitals, covering the brass faced works with silver engraved highlights, marked "Jan Hoogeland - Amsterdam" to the face and "Vrydag" just below center, showing the date aperture to the top. The long waist with chamfered corners holding the shaped panel door centering a gilt bronze aperture depicting Europa and the bull, the wide base with canted scrolling feet.
