From the Marc Newson website: Stylistically, the Embryo was an important breakthrough, defining for the first time a very identifiable Marc Newson signature style. “So many qualities of that chair laid down the DNA for much of what I was to do after that. It’s probably one of the most recognizable things that I’ve done, and one of the first really well-resolved pieces, both aesthetically and technically.”
The Embryo was Marc’s most technologically advanced project to date, making use of injection moulded polyurethane foam over an internal steel frame, and the surface was then covered in wetsuit neoprene. “I came up with the idea of upholstering it in wetsuit fabric, because the colours were strong and I was seduced by the texture. It seemed very Australian.”
You know what they say: ya don't look good in a wetsuit, ya don't look good. This chair looks good.
