Description
Vintage Josef Hoffmann Fledermaus Chairs.
Designed in 1906 by Josef Hoffmann for the Wiener Werkstatte and featured in the J. & J. Kohn catalogues as model no. 728, Hoffmann chose this design for the seating in Vienna's Cabaret Fledermaus that opened in October 1907. For the time the design was a bold and radical departure from the gilded tradition of European nightclubs and instantly gained popularity. This matching set of 4 chairs was manufactured by Alivar in 1992.
The set of four has been beautifully reupholstered in zebra hide.
We intentionally did not touch the paint patina on the armrest or frame. Please see photos for details.
